Leaving a Name in History, Incense Kept for Thousands of Years
惠泽尊王在其显化后，以护国庇民立功劳，被人们崇敬为宗教中高级神祗。惠泽尊王的事迹，历代志书均有记载，兹摘录如下：
Honorable King Hui Ze Zun was respected as a high celestial in religion because he ever protected the country & people and made many contributions after he had died. His deeds are recorded in annals in all ages, now we take passages from the annals as below:
1. 明洪武十九年《泉州府志》卷八十六载尊王于南宋时四次被册封事（见上）；
2. 明隆庆五年（1571）《泉州府志》卷四：
“宋朝封敕；神灵丕震，屡有御患之奇，祀兴宜隆，光昭崇德报功之意，考之。”
3. 《南安县志》记载：
皇清同治八年请封文牒。同治八年三月，泉州府南安县魁躔凌云堂，神姓叶名森，二十岁化身登神。宋嘉定年间，敕封广德侯；宝庆年间，加封忠应威武；开庆年间，又封威武英烈尊侯；景炎年间，再封尊王两字。
1. Volume 86 of Quanzhou Record written in the 19th year of Ming Emperor Hongwu recorded the deed that Honorable King was conferred for four times by Nan Song Dynasty;
2. Volume 4 Quanzhou Record written in the 5th year of Ming Emperor Longqing recorded that, based on textual criticism, we know that Honorable King was ever conferred by Song Dynasty; for he had kept away from disaster repeatedly with his superhuman strength shocking people completely, thus sacrifice to him shall be solemn to make his grand feats clear to all and show respect to him.”
3. Nan’an Record recorded that:
In the 8th year of Qing Emperor Tongzhi, people requested the court to confer Ye Sen. In the lunar 3rd month of the 8th year of Qing Emperor Tongzhi, there was the God Ye Sen in Lingyun Temple in Nan’an County, Quanzhou Prefecture was listed in the rank of celestials after his death when he was 20 years old. In the Song Jiading Dynasty, he was conferred as “Prince Guangde”; conferred additionally as “Zhong Ying & Wei Wu” in Baoqing Dynasty; “Honorable Prince Wei Wu & Ying Lie” was conferred once more in Kaiqing Dynasty with two words “Honorable King” more again in Jingyan Dynasty.
总之，王有三赐之典。乡中先正所谓可儿三也，方之藏于枌乡也。南人以神物珍之，非有大庆，罕窥其书。迄乎明季，东倭蹂躏，王却居民三祀，遂毁于兵燹。后有知者，虽粗知大概，终莫稽年月，叩颠未以，殚述其累朝赐爵之由，噫噫！
In general, there were ceremonies about the King for three times. It is just as the forefathers in the village said that there would be three times of ceremonies to be held for a person of virtue and such person would hide in villages. Southerners enshrine him as a fetish, unless in grand ceremonies, people rarely can see his writing. Till to Ming Dynasty, Japanese trampled upon our country, the King was so moved by three sacrifices from villagers that he destroyed Japanese havoc. In the future generations, although some knew this thing but they only knew roughly and can not check the exact year & month, what they can do is only to kowtowing and bowing continuously but can not detail the reason about his peerage granted by the dynasties. How regretful it is!
亦不幸哉！并系大于理宗帝仅数稔，果有无此事，又安可谬为附会邪。惟于我固山巡抚部院批，奏请南安县魁躔凌云堂慈济宫惠泽尊王，受封于宋，显请封典。必须查明确实事迹，乃志乘有无载明详细，造轴取结，照例详辨。兹未据造大事迹册结加详，评送唯难核辨。仰即遵照移会，查明叶尊王，当土匪滋忧州邑屡造妥协。册结具结并将志书送，可以凭核辨。延此缴。同治八年正月廿四日，卑职摘自《泉州府志》卅四卷《钦颁匾额》等，前来卑职会查御灾捍患，有功德于民者，正神例准。叶圣王受封宋朝；明有封赏；清咸丰、同治年间，奇功邑城，御灾捍患之例相符，理合地同，具文请国朝。辅国庇民，历有成绩。故上自三吴，下通百白力，莫不祷祠而广祝焉。
It is unfortunately too! Only after several years of Empero Lizong Dynasty, someone have doubt that if there was such thing, they never thought how can we tell a lie and make a strained interpretation! What the villagers can do is to request approval from Gushan’ Roving Ambassador Ministry to grant title to the Honorable King Hui Ze in the Lingyun Temple & Tzu Chi Temple in Kuichan, Nan’an County ever conferred by Song Dynasty. So we must check whether the exact deeds were detailed in records, seek evidence and make a conclusion to discriminate in detail as usual. Now there is not conclusion made on the basis of deed records and not checked in detail, so it is difficult to verify and discriminate for the request. Thereon I followed the rule and checked that it was Honorable King Ye that made compromise to the Japanese bandits when they made troubles in our prefecture. I recorded this thing and made a conclusion about it, and also sent the record for inspection. On the lunar 24th day of the first month in the 8th year of Tongzhi, I ever took passages from Inscribed Board Granted by Emperor, the Volume 34 of Quanzhou Record and I checked that Ye Sen had ever resisted against disasters and made feats to people, he was in accordance with the usual standard of right celestials. King Ye Sen was conferred in Song Dynasty; rewarded in Ming Dynasty; while in the years of Qing Xianfeng & Tongzhi, he ever made significant feats in our village and ever resisted against disasters, what he did is correspond to the ever deeds, according to the same rules, we should write a report to request our court for approval about grant. He supported our country and protected our people, making many achievements. So from the Three Wu to Baibaili, people all built temples for him and enshrined him.
咸丰年间，厦门、同安等处，盗匪滋事，蔓延南安，四处沦掠。官军剿捕数次，日匪焰炽张狂难御，官兵会神前，夜梦神圣指点机宜，随后集合乡兵，会和官军，戮力剿捕，贼遂以平。咸丰三年四月三十日，土匪首领纠集贼党四五千人，由德化窜入永春城，直侵南安境界。自晨至午，官军攻贼，力战二时之久。正在危急之际，忽见城北与城南兵甲林立，其中看到叶姓旗帜一面，士卒见之，奋勇攻击，斩疳馘无数，贼遂败城池。即于日午，收复地方。尚赖叶圣王力助，则安而胜。
During the years of Xianfeng, bandits often caused trouble in Xiamen & Tong’an, even sometimes endangered Nan’an, they robbed everywhere. The official army had ever suppressed for several times, but the bandits were so fierce that it is very difficult to defeat them. So the official army came to the temple to pray, they dreamed that King Ye Sen gave directions, thus they called village soldiers together with the official army to suppress shoulder to shoulder, and at last the bandits were defeated. On the lunar 30th day of forth month in the 3rd year of Xianfeng, the leader of the bandits drew four-to-five bandits scurrying into Yongchun City from Dehua and directly approaching the border of Nan’an. From the morning to the noon, the official army had ever been attacking the bandits for four hours. In case of such emergency, soldiers and weapons suddenly appeared in the north & south of the city, among which, there was a flag written with a surname of “Ye”. On catching the sight of this, soldiers attacked the bandits bravely, and they killed countless bandits, so the bandits were defeated in the city. And the soldiers recaptured the city in the afternoon on that day. It was thanks to King Ye Sen’s strong support, thus the army could win the victory.
同治年间，匪首等联合在永春州属何山寨地方，结党啸聚，扰境害民，时值叛逆窜临漳州郡县，该匪思图响应。经官司军叠次迫寨猛攻，诸神显圣，助擒匪首，有功事实。
During the years of Tongzhi, leaders of other troop of bandits united to gather in Heshan Village in Yongchun Prefecture to invade the territory and made troubles to villagers. When the bandits went to Zhangzhou County, the above leader intended to respond to them. But under the onslaught from the official army over and over and the superhuman power from various celestial who assisted to capture the leaders, making feats in deed.
同治九年十月，经抚学部院审示，巡抚部院监示，督学部批示于钦命福建等处承宣。布政使：邓政使。同治九年十一月初七。
In the lunar 10th month of the 9th year of Tongzhi, the Ministry of Education Supervision commanded requests from Fujian and other places with the investigation from the Ministry of Education and the supervision of the Ministry of Roving Ambassador. Bu Zheng Shi: Deng. Record on the lunar 7th day of the 11th month of the 9th year of Tongzhi.
民国四年《南安县志》卷之三十八，人物志之十三（第1389面）载明进士、江西布政使戴廷诏撰写的《惠泽尊王传》。
And in the volume 38 of Nan’an County Record written in the 4th year of the Republic of China, the People Record 13 recorded the Biography of Honorable King Hui Ze written by Dai Tingzhao, Jin Shi conferred by Ming Dynasty, a Bu Zheng Shi from Jiangxi.
惠泽尊王泽被四方，千百年来，香火不断。对惠泽尊王的宗教信仰，早已由南安高田地区传播至海内外。供奉惠泽尊王的庙宇由上宫改建成慈济宫，公元1993年再扩建成云山寺。各处奉祀惠泽尊王的庙宇，据不完全统计，在泉州一带有：南安市内柳城云山殿及金淘深辉村、后厝村、龟后村，泉州霞淮村，以及德化、惠安、安溪等处；在海外有：马来西亚的冼都南阳宫、泗岩南阳宫，增江南阳宫、槟城慈济宫、美联园珠明宫、坡德申南阳宫，以及新加坡的惠泽尊王殿、印尼雅加达的惠泽庙、菲律宾的惠泽庙。
Kindness from Honorable King Hui Ze spreads in the whole world, for thousands of years, incenses in his temple keep continuously. And religious faith to him has spread abroad from Gaotian Nan’an. The temple enshrining Honorable King Hui Ze was rebuilt into Tzu Chi Temple from Shang Temple, and expanded into Yunshan Temple in 1993. In addition, there are temples enshrining Honorable King Hui Ze all over the world. According to incomplete statistics, temples in Quanzhou include: Yunshan Temple in Liucheng, Nan’an City, temples in Jintaohui Village, Houcu Village, Guihou Village; Xiahuai Village in Quanzhou; and temples in Dehua, Huian & Anxi as well as other places. While temples overseas include: Nanyang Temple in Xiandu, Nanyang Temple in Siyan, Nanyang Temple in Zengjiang, Tzu Chi Temple in Penang, Zhuming Temple in Meilian Garden, Nanyang Temple in Podeshen in Malaysia, and Temple of Honorable King Hui Ze in Singapore, Hui Ze Temple in Diakarta, Indonesia, Hui Ze Temple in Philippines etc.

著名方志家戴廷诏称惠泽尊王“护国裨民者，功难殚述。宜乎德音懋著，英声烂然……则后此亿万斯年，而王之声灵赫濯，亦将与日月经天，江河纬地，同垂永久而勿替也夫”。
The famous specialist in local records ever praised Honorable King Hui Ze “The number of his deeds about protecting our country and people is so much that we can’t list all of them. He is really worthy of such comment that his achievement is countless and his heroic name is famous…so in the future billons of years from then on, his heroic name will be more famous and it will last just as the sun & moon as well as rivers do and last for ever but never perish.”

奕奕庙宇，沉沉香烟，伟哉尊王，弱冠成仙，簪缨贵胄，豪杰名贤，英灵莫匹，颖异天然，著功炎宋，显化魁躔 ，安民护国，持危扶颠，忠良威武，惠泽万年，一炉香火，万世不迁，虔诚祷请，速到来前，裔孙炉前，焚香诚心
In the grand temple, coiling incense smoke, there lives great Honorable King, he passed away when he was around 20 years old; he is a noble and also a hero, whose spirit no man can compare; his extraordinary intelligent is a force of nature, his feats applied to Song; he displayed superhuman strength in Kuichan, protecting the country and people, supporting for danger & difficulty, he is faithful and powerful, his kindness will benefit people for thousand of years; one stove of incense will last forever; your descendants burn incense sincerely and pray devoutly now, hoping you displaying your power soon
三拜请，拜请大宗威武英烈惠泽尊王，速速降来临，扶助乩童开口，指示分明，神兵火急如律令。
We bow for three times and pray, hoping Honorable King Da Zong Wei Wu Ying Lie Hui Ze to come soon to help the devotee to speak, indicating correctly and sending army from heaven immediately.
